Achieving success in destination marketing through alternatives in tourism

This session will unpack the concept of the triple bottom line (People, Planet, Profit) and explore the possibility of an integration of tourism with the concept of a holistic, sustainable quality of life for communities. Some tourism practitioners have created alternatives that adapt a living system theory which upholds the existence of all living systems, their structure, interaction, behaviour and development. The session will use such case studies and videos to highlight alternatives that seek to create shared values for all tourism stakeholders and debate on the question: Will this kind of approach to tourism aid successful destination marketing?

K T Suresh, Secretary, Equitable Tourism Options

Making destinations safe for children - A business imperative for sustainable destination marketing

This session will highlight the unique role that tourism industry (organised and unorganised) can play in making a tourism destination safe for children. By showcasing practices adopted by the formal tourism industry and informal/unorganised tourism service providers, the panel will emphasize on the need to integrate child protection mechanisms within the business practices and as business imperative. Recognising the unique position of the tourism service providers to prevent sexual exploitation in one hand and the role of Government and local community members on the other hand, the session will call upon the tourism players to facilitate a multi-stakeholder destination management approach to protect children from any form of exploitation in tourism destinations.
